On August 17th,1999, a terrible earthquake ,measuring 7.4 on the Richter Scale, shook western Turkey. Within seconds, the town lay in ruins. During the next few hours rescue team arrived from all across the world to help search for survivors. The English volunteer Simon and his search and rescue dog Kelly rushed there in time too.
It was difficult work, but Kelly was trained. She has a wonderful sense of smell. If a living person was buried beneath, she would soon pick up the scent. She didn’t give up and she found Omar. At last, Omar was saved. Simon felt proud of her and she also felt proud.
